SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Inspired by his father, Chef Hartly Mathis, a pioneer in the culinary industry in St. Moritz since 1967, Chef Reto Mathis developed a deep passion for fine dining from a young age.
With aspirations to build on his father’s legacy, Reto ventured into the gastronomic world and carved out a remarkable career of his own.
Reto Mathis’ restaurant, “La Marmite,” became a symbol of luxury and excellence, attracting the attention of royal families, politicians, sportsmen, and entrepreneurs from all corners of the globe. His culinary expertise led him to become the official caterer of prestigious events such as the St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow and the VIP Catering Alpine Ski World Championship.
With his visionary expertise, Chef Reto co-founded the St. Moritz Gourmet Festival and dedicated 25 years to leading it as its president inviting the world to savor the craft of the finest chefs.
His enthusiasm also sparked the creation of Chef Alps, and he carried his commitment to quality into the esteemed Académie Culinaire de France as a proud member.
At The HLF St. Moritz he aspires to provide up-and-coming chefs with the skills to lead in healthy and sustainable cooking, under the guidance of Global Culinary Masters.
We are at a pivotal point, returning to the fundamentals that indeed define our profession: honoring the rhythms of the seasons, delving into the richness of local culture with its unique products, tastes, emotions, and heritage, appreciating the hard work of our local farmers and producers, and, most importantly, nurturing nature itself. Our commitment is to foster a sustainable world for generations yet to come.
I am excited and honoured to be part of this extraordinary endeavour, moving toward a sustainable and mindful culinary future!
