Dr. Oksana Tarasova, Ph.D.
Dr Oksana Tarasova is a Senior Scientific Officer in the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). She is working on the development of operational Global Greenhouse Gas Watch that aims to deliver information relevant to climate change mitigation on a global scale.
Between 2014 and 2022, she had been a Head of the Atmospheric Environment Research Division focusing on the coordination of global research activities related to atmospheric composition change from greenhouse gases to traditional air pollutants and Solar UV Radiation. She was a Scientific Officer in the same division since joining WMO in 2009.
The main areas of Dr Tarasova’s scientific interest cover observations and analysis of greenhouse gases and traditional pollutants in the atmosphere and their impact on climate, environment, and human health. She has a background in Physics and PhD in Atmosphere Physics, worked in Lomonosov Moscow State University and Max-Planck Institute for Chemistry in Mainz, Germany.
She served as a President of the Atmospheric Sciences Division of the European Geoscience Union, as a co-chair of the Task Force on Measurements and Modelling of the Convention on Long Range Transboundary Air Pollution, she is currently a member of multiple advisory boards and research projects. She is an author and co-author of over 100 publications.
